Invite guest speakers

  1. 01

    What guest speakers are for

A guest speaker is an external person without an OpenBooth account who joins a broadcast live. They open a speak link, pick a display name, allow their microphone, and can speak once the host puts them on air. They show up in the participants list with the Guest label.

  2. 02

    Meant as temporary

Guest speakers are meant as temporary speakers for a single session, not as permanent contributors. A speak link is single-use: once a guest joins via the link, it is consumed. If the guest loses their browser session or clears their cookie, they need a new link from the host.

    Note

If someone should speak regularly, add them to your org as a member and assign them as a Speaker on the channel. That way you don't have to hand out a fresh link before every session.
  3. 03

    Create a speak link

In the channel under Contributors, open the Speak Links section and click New link. OpenBooth generates a link under /speak/[token] with a default validity of 7 days.

    • One link is meant for one guest. For multiple guests, create multiple links.
    • Up to 20 active links per channel can exist at the same time.
    • Once a guest has claimed the link, it is consumed and cannot be reused. If their browser session is lost, the guest needs a new link.
  4. 04

    Share the link

    Heads up

Send the link only to the intended person, for example by email or chat. Anyone who knows it can join as a guest. If you suspect a leak, revoke the link and create a new one.
  5. 05

    What the guest sees

When opening the link, the guest picks a display name. If no stream is running, they land on a waiting page. Once the broadcast starts, they are routed into the studio and allow their microphone there.

  6. 06

    Bring the speaker on air

Once the guest has allowed their microphone, they show up in the participants list. Use the microphone icon to unmute them so listeners can hear them. Use the same icon to mute them again without removing them from the studio.

  7. 07

    Remove and revoke

To remove a guest from the channel entirely, use the trash icon in the participants list. The guest immediately gets a notice that they were removed by the host and is signed out.

    • Revoke single unused speak links via the trash icon in the Speak Links section.
    • Revoke all unused links at once with Revoke all. Links that have already been claimed stay active.
    • To remove the speaker behind a claimed link, use the participants list.
