Microphone & audio quality

  1. 01

    Pick the input device

In the microphone setup the dropdown lists every audio input the browser sees. Pick the microphone you want. OpenBooth remembers the choice per channel.

    Tip

USB microphone connected after the studio was opened? Click the dropdown once to refresh the device list.
  2. 02

    Adjust the level

Speak at normal volume. The level meter should mostly sit in the middle range. If it constantly hits the red zone, the input signal is too hot and may clip.

    • Reduce the gain on the microphone or audio interface.
    • Keep 10–20 cm distance to the microphone.
  3. 03

    Echo cancellation

Echo happens when studio audio loops back into the microphone via speakers. Echo cancellation is on by default and removes that feedback path. Safest: use headphones, then the issue goes away.

  4. 04

    Noise suppression

Noise suppression is also on by default. It filters stationary noise like fans or air conditioning.

    Heads up

For music broadcasts you can disable noise suppression in studio settings. It's tuned for speech and otherwise thins out high frequencies.
